Lauren Wins in Noosa!

Published by Lauren Kitchen

I have just come back from my off season and began training again when I travelled up to Noosa for the Women's Grand Prix, part of USM events Noosa Triathlon festival. In the race I was supported and was supporting my team mates for the day; Rochelle Gilmore, Carlee Taylor and Miffy Galloway. We raced well together and just after the sprint at the halfway point I managed to get away with the very strong Ruth Corset. Knowing I had Rochelle behind I tried to assess the situation and recover for the finish.

Over the past month I have been racing in China as well as in Belgium and Holland. China was a great experience. It is very different to any race in the season and was fun to do with my team. Last week we had a training camp in Maastricht to focus on the TTT course for the world championships later in the season. It was really nice to be able to catch up with most of the team without the stresses of racing, plus we had amazing weather and we stayed in a castle which was very nice.

Team Time Trial Training Camp

Published by Lauren Kitchen

Over the last few days I have been training with the Rabo Ladies around the World Championships Teams Time Trail course as well as focusing on the technical side of the activity. Rabosport has posted a great video of the third day's training at the track, with a great shot of Sarah testing just how close you can get to the camera!

Ronde van Gelderland

Published by Lauren Kitchen

Yesterday I raced Ronde van Gelderland near to Apeldoorn in Holland. It was an interesting race with a large startlist, a few testing hills and some typical small dutch roads. Oh and of course wind! I felt really strong in the race and was present in the splits that occured just after the 100k mark. After chasing the attempted breakaways, my russian team mate Tatiana made the winning move with five other girls. Tatiana finished 6th for the Raboteam.

Energiewacht Tour

Published by Lauren Kitchen

Over the last five days I have been racing in the north of Holland with the Rabo ladies; Marianne, Annemiek, Iris, Tatiana and Sarah. It was a great week of racing with lots of wind, cold temperatures and our first team's time trial for the season. Marianne showed how strong she is finishing on the podium in five of the six stages as well as picking up 3rd overall. I had a great week of racing and learnt alot from the girls and about myself. I really enjoyed the TTT stage with the team, where we finished third.

Training camp in Tuscany

Published by Lauren Kitchen

About two weeks ago I traveled to Buttgen in Germany to work with the Rabo trainers and sports science staff to find the optimum time trial position on my new bike. We worked on the veledrome with a series of different tests with lots of cameras in order to get the most out of being 'aero'. For the last ten days or so I have been tucked away at a lovely little family hotel close to the coast in Tuscany, Italy. We were very lucky to have summer weather for training in the hills close to our base, about an hour south of Pisa.
